  1. 01Does your company have a clearly defined Duty of Care policy, and does it establish who is responsible for protecting employees during normal operations and emergencies?
  2. 02Does your Duty of Care program cover all employees, including employees traveling for business, working remotely, working at customer locations, or operating outside normal business hours?
  3. 03Does your organization have a documented Emergency Action Plan, and does it address the specific threats your employees could realistically encounter? (Examples: natural disasters, fire, medical emergencies, active attacker/violence incidents, civil unrest, severe weather, transportation incidents, and security threats.)
  4. 04Do you have the equipment, communications capabilities, and resources necessary to execute that Emergency Action Plan? (Examples: medical/first-aid kits, water and emergency food, emergency communications, backup power, emergency contact information, evacuation resources, transportation, and shelter/assembly capabilities.) Do you have a plan—or do you have the capability to execute the plan?
  5. 05Does your organization have a defined Personnel Accountability System that can quickly determine who is safe, who is missing, and who needs assistance during an emergency? (Examples: calling trees, rally/assembly points, check-in procedures, employee rosters, reporting processes, escalation procedures, designated accountability officers, and management notification.)
  6. 06Does your Personnel Accountability System work 24/7—including nights, weekends, holidays, remote work, business travel, and situations where employees are dispersed across multiple locations or time zones?
  7. 07Do you have the ability to continuously monitor your threat environment—both around your facilities and in the locations where your employees are working or traveling?
  8. 08When a threat is identified, can your organization rapidly notify the employees who may be affected and establish whether they are safe?
  9. 09If an employee encounters a threat or emergency, can they quickly report it and request assistance, and does your organization have a defined process for escalating and responding to that report?
  10. 10Can you demonstrate—through documented policies, procedures, alerts, accountability records, response actions, and after-action reviews—that your organization actually fulfilled its Duty of Care?
